Mumbai Anti-Trafficking Initiative

Beneficiaries in Mumbai Safehouse

Our first Mumbai Safehouse was established in _____, and since then, we have added more safehouses where trafficked young women receive 24/7 care, including housing, medical support, counseling, and something deeply healing—a true sense of belonging.

Would you believe it? We have two adult women, lovingly called Mama,” who live with our girls and provide them with the mother’s love many of them never had. In these homes, the girls share daily chores like cleaning, cooking, and caring for one another. Most recently, they have even begun preparing meals for our children at Udaan.

There is lots of noise, lots of laughter, sometimes a little arguing, but always lots of love. And in the middle of it all, healing is happening—one meal, one conversation, one hug, and one restored life at a time.

Knowledge Center

By 9:00 in the morning, our girls have begun their day at the Knowledge Center—a bright, open, welcoming space filled with light, hope, and the promise of a new beginning.

We designed this facility with dedicated learning rooms and state-of-the-art multimedia resources to make education engaging and accessible. There are spaces for art, computers, tailoring, and other skill-development activities, giving each girl the opportunity to discover her talents and build confidence for the future.

One of the most sacred spaces in the Knowledge Center is our quiet counseling room. Here, both in-house and outside therapists sit with these deeply traumatized young girls, listen to their stories, hold their hands, and gently walk with them on their journey to freedom and healing.

For girls who have never had the chance to learn, our mission is simple but life-changing: to help them read and write. For those whose education was interrupted because of trafficking, we help mainstream them back into schooling through the National Open School program. We take such pride when our girls graduate from their 10th and 12th grade programs. Each certificate is more than an academic achievement—it is a declaration that their future is still alive.

But the Knowledge Center is not only a place of study. It is also a place of joy. Every day, the girls participate in Zumba classes, special learning projects, cooking and baking sessions, and fun indoor games. There is laughter, movement, creativity, learning, and healing all happening together.

In this beautiful space, our girls are not just gaining knowledge. They are rediscovering their worth, rebuilding their confidence, and learning to dream again.

Red-Light Community Development

Whenever we have access to young women still trapped in red-light districts, we conduct medical camps, provide household items, and build relationships of trust.

Our desire is to be their advocate—to remind them they are not forgotten and to gently encourage them to believe that life outside the red-light district is possible.

Trafficking has changed in recent years. Many girls are no longer seen openly in red-light areas; they are hidden in lodges (small motels), and private spaces, then connected to buyers through social media apps.

As trafficking changes, our fight must also change. We remain committed to reaching women wherever they are hidden and helping them find freedom, dignity, and a new beginning.
